Killing Hope

In March 2018, I attended the Faith Over Fear presentation at Blaine United Church of Christ. The presentation focused on the Islamophobia industry that spends over $30 million each year to make people afraid of Islam. Illustrating the effect of this brainwashing, a person in the audience asked why Islamic countries hate America. I suggested reading Killing Hope , which documents the CIA and military interventions worldwide since 1948. In particular, the overthrow of a democratically elected president in Iran and the installation of a dictator friendly to American oil companies. Half a century later when Saudi Arabian terrorists attacked New York City, the American war industry led by Vice President Dick Cheney capitalized on American ignorance of history to make a bundle destroying Iraq. The business of war paid off handsomely in the Green Zone of Baghdad, where Americans passed out US dollars to people for snitching on terrorists, which turned out to be a way for people to make mone

Community Values

The Whatcom County Library System Diversity Statement stands in stark contrast to the community values expressed by Blaine School Board voters who just elected an avowed bigot by a wide margin. As a cultural oasis, Blaine Public Library sponsors programs and events that honor human dignity and a culture of inclusion. Candidate-elect Cliff Freeman and his supporters are against all that . For those of us who believe in democracy, this is an attack on our community values.

Corrupt Local Media

As noted in Cascadia Daily News, the oil refineries don't just manufacture toxic petroleum products; they also generate political corruption. Their latest initiative to corrupt 2024 elections is typical of the industry, which is provided cover by corrupt local media (CDN excluded) that takes ad money to maintain silence.

Malicious Harassment

Based on recent Blaine City Council meetings, it appears someone is organizing malicious harassment of Blaine public officials for political purposes. Historically, this is the mode of operation (m.o.) used by right-wing delinquents such as Whatcom Tea Party (now Common Threads Northwest). On November 13 , a contingent descended on the Blaine City Council, requiring police assistance.  While this might be shrugged off as hotheads blowing off steam, it has the hallmarks of being prelude to more serious trouble. This misbehavior mimics what we saw during the COVID lockdown when defiant Birch Bay mothers dared the Blaine School Board to call police.  The contingent noted above was primarily opponents of an East Blaine trailer park. While they have a right to disagree, and if the proposed park would imperil our water supply as they claim, then we need to revise our urban growth area accordingly. That said, decorum matters. Demonizing not allowed. Left unchecked, this misbehavior can escala

Geriatrics

One of the things I learned during my 2022 hospital stay at St. Joseph's is that medical staff there are not educated regarding the latest in geriatrics, in particular the safe and effective use of opioids in treating geriatric diseases involving severe chronic pain. Luckily for me, my former primary sent my swab to GeneSight laboratory to determine which opioids are compatible with my DNA. Neither the doctors nor nurses at St. Joseph's had ever heard of such a test, which I had done five years ago.  According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, the healthcare workforce lacks the capacity to meet the needs of older patients . To remedy this would require a ten-fold increase in trained staff, which the medical industry neglects for financial reasons, leaving Americans with one of the worst healthcare systems in the world.

Tag Line Contest

The winner of the Blaine Confidential tag line contest: Uncovering the news The Northern Light covers up                                    For Native American month, I sent an LTE to The Northern Light titled  Making Amends (blaineconfidential.blogspot.com)  which was rejected in favor of a Birch Bay writer complaining about Lummi fishermen . This is in line with The Northern Light rejecting any letters critical of British Petroleum ( BP ), a big advertiser.

Reckless Bigotry

In his Northern Light candidate interview , Cliff Freeman said the following:  "Stop the woke agenda that is poisoning the minds of our kids. Be it diversity training, CRT, social and emotional learning, inappropriate sex education, reducing parent’s rights, this transgender contagion, the list goes on. I will take a hard look at the curriculum. I need to understand the state requirements that promote this craziness as well as any district policies, if any, that contribute to it. And make adjustments if needed. The curriculum needs to reflect the values of the community." It is shameful that Blaine School District voters elected someone who openly opposes diversity and learning about the history of American racism that led to slavery and genocide. Putting the lives of transgender and other LGBTQ+ students at risk is not leadership; it is reckless bigotry.  [related articles: Whatcom Hate Groups  and Duties of Citizenship ] [note: I am using Freeman's own words to facilita
