FERNDALE POLICE MISCONDUCT

February 16 letter to Ferndale City Council:

Using the police to attack their political opponents is one thing Mayor Mary Lou Steward and President Donald Trump have in common. They are both pathological liars involved in criminal misconduct, but it is their intolerance for open government and the rule of law--as well as their willingness to use police intimidation--that sets them apart from honest politicians. Ferndale Police Department's involvement (see attached) in helping Blaine Chief of Police Rodger Funk defame, and use police misconduct to intimidate, four Blaine open government activists holding Mayor Steward accountable is now being investigated by the WA Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC).

Blaine Chief of Police Rodger Funk, Ferndale Police Officer Richard Hart, and Blaine Police Officer Zachary Taxdahl apparently cooked the books on the so-called investigation of citizens opposing financial conflicts of interest by Blaine officials (see attached).  Instead of investigating proven allegations of perjury, self-dealing and fraud by Blaine officials, Blaine and Ferndale police were used by the Blaine mayor to intimidate open government activists who exposed Blaine Commissioner Sam Randhawa, Councilman Mike Hill--whom I documented voting twice to amend the Blaine Municipal Code to increase the value of his commercial properties in the Central Business District--and developer Gurdeep Bains for 'self-dealing'. Chief Funk then sent officers to the homes of the open government activists with notices that we are banned from Starbuck's, Bordertown Mexican Grill, Blaine Visitor's Center, and Chevron (tenants of Mike Hill).

After we informed Starbuck's attorneys, Chief Funk phoned us to say we can now shop anywhere but Chevron. Additionally, Chief Funk chose to testify on behalf of the convicted violent felon who had threatened to murder us. The Facebook video where this felon threatened to commit murder was 'liked' by Mayor Steward.

On November 4, 2025, Blaine Chief of Police Rodger Funk voluntarily testified on behalf of convicted violent felon David Brudvik in Whatcom District Court, where Judge Angela Anderson issued protection orders and surrender of firearms against Mr. Brudvik for threatening to murder four open government activists, including myself, for requesting public records that revealed perjury, self-dealing, and fraud by Blaine officials.

My January 19, 2026 complaint to the CJTC, which has the authority to suspend or revoke certification of law enforcement officers, documents selective and retaliatory policing, as well as severe deprivation of equal protection, and reckless disregard for human life by Blaine Chief of Police Rodger Funk. Ferndale Chief of Police Matt Huffman helped him.
