PERFECT STORM OF CORRUPTION

Many citizens of Washington State would be shocked to learn how corrupt the Growth Management planning process is in Whatcom County. While Blaine is the poster child for municipal corruption, Whatcom County and Washington State make no effort to do anything about it. Now that the U.S. Government has gutted the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice, citizens have few options to achieve civic reform leading to the return of the rule of law.

The last refuge of democracy in this new order of things is federal court, where judges are appointed for life, and still have independence to uphold the law against government misconduct and fraud. This, however, is a very expensive option--one few volunteer organizations can afford. This perfect storm of corruption requires elevating the conflict to a level where the stakes are such that pro bono legal services become available. Getting there is a lot of work.
