June 17 Blaine
6/12/25 letter to city and county:
The June 17, 2025, Blaine Library informal meeting with three of seven county council members to hear about the needs of Blaine citizens is long overdue. I began writing Whatcom County Council and Whatcom County Planning with documented Blaine official corruption in October 2024, and have submitted dozens of documents and emails since that have not received a single reply.
The Whatcom County Comprehensive Plan 10-year update that includes Blaine is due the end of the year, and this informal meeting is no substitute for holding community visioning in each of the cities PRIOR to drafting the update. So far, no educational meetings about the comprehensive plan where citizens can ask questions and receive answers from experts have been held in Blaine.
In my June 6, 2025, letter to Whatcom County Planning, I observe, "The Blaine Municipal Code and Shoreline Management Plan are non-compliant with the Whatcom County Comprehensive Plan and Washington State Growth Management Act, having significantly reduced critical area protection and shoreline setbacks that violate the State Environmental Policy Act and Clean Water Act."
ps--Community visioning meetings should be held in the evening or on weekends so everyone can participate. Mid-afternoon on a work day ensures limited participation. Blaine Public Library holds 45 people. Blaine Community Center holds 200.
