Insulting Councilman
6/17/25 letter to county:
I found County Councilman Elenbaas' behavior at the Blaine listening session today condescending, dismissive, and insulting. His attempt to misdirect the conversation on corruption in Blaine city government and to belittle those of us who attempt to hold our local government accountable brings shame on the county government.
His remarks that exhibited contempt for the rule of law governing ethics and the public process were appalling. His portrayal of Blaine Water Coalition members present as no-growth environmentalists reveals his extreme ignorance and unwillingness to address embedded conflicts of interest by Blaine city officials, such as Blaine Planning Commissioner Sam Randhawa, who on March 13, 2025, voted to rezone two Blaine properties for which he is the listed real estate agent, thereby increasing his commission from $15,000 to $67,000.
When asked at the beginning of the hearing if there were any financial conflicts of interest, Mr. Randhawa said no.
The rezone was approved by Blaine City Council after Blaine Community Development Services director Alex Wenger removed Blaine Water Coalition objections from the official record and removed creek setbacks and critical area protections from the planning commission recommendation. This is fraud.
