Colin Hawkins
6/5/25 letter to Blaine Planning Commission and Whatcom County:
When I first met Blaine Planning Commission vice chair Colin Hawkins, he was a candidate for Blaine City Council. He was doorbelling, and seemed like a nice fellow. I later learned he was the son of a longtime councilman, Charlie Hawkins, whom I never met.
As part of the 'good-old-boy' system of governance, Hawkins, like many in Blaine, chooses to go along to get along. He has to my knowledge never said a word about self-dealing by other homies like Councilman Mike Hill. Nor challenged the commission chair Armerding for bullying members of the public.
Upholding the law requires integrity, not going along with blatant corruption, just because you went to school with some of the crooks. Ferndale went through the change from a 'good-old-boys' system of governance a few years back as a part of civic reform that has led to prosperity. Blaine is still stuck in the past.
