Blaine Comprehensive Plan
6/1/25 letter to city and county:
We are halfway through 2025, the year Blaine must update its comprehensive plan under the Growth Management Act (GMA) for the next ten years, and the City of Blaine has yet to hold an educational workshop to orient Blaine citizens to the process. Our environmental sustainability, economic sustainability, and community viability are on the line.
While the City of Blaine sabotaged this process by unlawfully approving unsustainable development in violation of state and federal laws during the official three-year crime spree 2022-25, intending to rush through major developments prior to any public participation, the comprehensive plan they adopt will be invalid. GMA requires a community vision, not a developers vision.
The intent of the Growth Management Act is to develop cities according to a community vision for redevelopment that protects Critical Areas such as aquifers, streams and shorelines and protects existing residents from being forced out by rising rents due to public policies aimed at producing luxury housing that increases property values.
Blaine has failed to abide by the Growth Management Act and State Environmental Policy Act, thus forcing Blaine citizens to sue the city. Absent intervention by the state and federal government, Blaine's only hope is removing the six out of seven members of the city council who opposed free speech, a code of ethics, and the rule of law.
Whatcom County has the authority to end the comprehensive plan corruption in Blaine but has turned a blind eye. Clearing out corruption in city hall is up to us.
